Quilting, Let’s Get Started
Class Description:
Are wondering how to get started quilting? Step into a beginner-friendly class for first-time quilters. You will learn the basic steps for cutting, sewing, quilting, and binding a sample project. With guided practice time you will leave with a small take-away project. The participants need to be familiar with their sewing machine and have general sewing experience.
What You’ll Learn:
• Selection of fabric for quilting
• Common quilt batting and backing options
• Thread and needle types
• Pressing guideline
• How to safely use a rotary cutter to cut fabric
• Quilting with a straight stitch for stitch-in-the-ditch and other line patterns
What to Bring to Class:
• Your sewing machine, power cord, and presser foot
• Bobbins and needles compatible with your machine
• Your sewing machine manual (paper or digital)
• Scissors, thread, straight pins or clips, and stitch ripper
• If possible, walking presser foot, ¼ inch foot
• If you have them, a ruler, a cutting mat, and a rotary cutter but we also have these supplies at the shop that you can use.
Class Supplies:
• 3 -fat quarters (18 inches x 24 inches)
• 18 x 24 inch cotton batting (provided)
• Matching thread, cotton or polyester, 50 weight
